History and Background
I purchased the car in 1982 for $ 1800.00 fully stock.
At that point in my life all I wanted to do was go fast and spin tires.
I didn't have much money so I put together a small block Chev 283 that was given to me. I didn't think it would produce allot of power but it was all I had and I had to work with it. I asked around for parts and came across some headers and 1.94 64 cc heads that my cousin had under his bench. He said they were no use to him and that I could have them. At that time he was on to bigger and better things he had a nova Big block that ran 10.90 et and I guess small block part were junk to him.
So I put this motor together 283 new bearings 10.5:1 pistons flat top. Thru in a little bit better cam and a performer manifold and holly card I think it was 600 cfm.
So I thought the old cast iron power glide had to go so I went to the junk yard and picked up a turbo 350.
I through it all together added a shift kit and star ratchet shifter and this car felt fast.
Right away I found out this small motor would turn upwards of 8000 RPM
With headers and glass packs 8000 RPM sounds bad ass!
So I started participating in street racing and cruising on the weekend and developed a reputation for winning street races. Fellow racers didn't believe this was a 283 that was kicking there butts, but it was. At this point it was getting fun and I was getting very bold but after several tickets including a reckless racing I had to cool and decided to take it to the track.
I thought this car would turn a 13 second et but to my dismay the first pass was a 15:09 et and after many attempts 15:07 was the best she could do.
So I convinced myself that a small block 350 build up was the answer and after several thousand dollars to replace the motor, trans and rear end I finally had a 12 second et car.
The last time I ran the car at the track I had a wiring fire which completely burnt all the wiring, luckily the car didn't burn to the ground.
I new nothing about wiring and at this point didn't have allot of cash to throw at the car and l parked it in my parents garage and let it sit.
I lost interest in this car and started racing motorcycles which I was introduced to by a friend and that were the money went.
I gave up racing bikes because when you crash it hurts and I had to work and could not afford a major injury. And in motocross as you get better you need to take more risks to keep up with the competition.
So here I an 19 years later married with two kids and a major project on my hands I will try to update this page regularly so you can follow my project.
